California offers plenty of options for families looking for a day out on a working farm. From coastal areas to inland valleys, you can find farm parks and petting zoos where kids can get close to animals, explore open spaces, and learn a bit about rural life. These outings suit a range of ages and make for a relaxed break from city routines, whether you’re near the shore or further inland.
Before heading out, check each farm’s own website for current opening times and any booking requirements, particularly around school holidays. Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes for outdoor ground, and pack layers since weather across California can shift through the day.
This guide features a selection of farms from across California. See all 323 farm parks in California on the map.
