Illinois has plenty of farm parks and petting zoos suited to a family day out, from rural spots surrounded by open fields to smaller sites closer to town. These places typically offer a mix of animals to meet, outdoor space to explore, and seasonal activities that change through the year, making them an easy option for parents looking for something low-key and hands-on.
Before you head out, check the farm’s own website for current opening times and any advance booking needs, especially around school holidays and weekends. Wear sturdy shoes or wellies, since much of the ground is likely to be uneven or muddy depending on the weather.
This guide features a selection of farms from across Illinois. See all 168 farm parks in Illinois on the map.
